What about the soil?

The Netherlands is a small, densely populated country, which lacks almost every resource long thought to be necessary for large-scale agriculture. Studies show that more food has to be harvested in the next four decades than all farmers in history have harvested over the past 8,000 years. Ance went into the fields of Frederiksoord to investigate where the farmers stand on this topic. She found that the grey zone of the discussion is the soil. For everything that is planted, grown and produced, the soil plays a crucial part which is often overlooked. Through Ance’s installation of the traveling soil, she highlights that the most important player in agriculture needs to be heard. Let the soil speak up and tell the story of its relationship with the farmers and the earth. The aim is to bring the controversial visions together and find a common future scenario for our usage of the soil. If we want future generations to live on healthy land, the way we deal with the soil has to change.
